Recognizing Physical in Investigations of Criminal Fatal Fire Scenes
by IAPS Administration - Sunday, February 14, 2010, 07:13 PM
Dr. Elayne Pope of The International Academy of Public Safety presented a live on-line symposium entitled "Recognizing Physical Evidence in Investigations of Criminal Fatal Fire Scenes" to the Mississippi Academy of Science on Wednesday February 10, 2010.

Dr. Pope's scientific research investigates how the body's soft and skeletal tissues progressively change during different fire scenarios (structural, vehicular, and criminal) and the different types of evidence which survives for forensic medico-legal analysis. Even after the fire, the body retains a wealth of information, which helps investigators to the determine the victim's identity and if the death was accidental or a criminal act to destroy evidence of the body.
